• Any hernias present in the abdominal wall may be fixed concurrently with the abdominoplasty
• A gastric band port can be replaced under the muscles for better cosmesis after the skin and fat are stretched more tightly across this region
• We sometime use "Tisseel" glue to help fix the repair in place and prevent fluid accumulation. This is a biological glue which carries a tiny theoretical risk of transmitting blood-borne diseases, although no case has been reported thus far
• Smoking contributes significantly to complication rates after abdominoplasty surgery
