What is a co-morbidity?

A medical condition that exists in addition to and which may be caused or worsened by obesity. With sufficient weight loss, obesity-related co-morbidities such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnoea generally improve or completely resolve.

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
  • High Cholesterol
  • Heart Disease
  • Asthma
  • Sleep Apnoea
  • Gallstones
  • Reflux/Indigestion
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Depression
  • Menstrual problems/Infertility
  • Stress Incontinence

There is also an association between obesity and cancer.

Those at an increased risk are breast, colorectal, prostate, oesophageal, uterine.
